Interhouse Gala

On Monday Union Prep School held their Annual Inter-house Gala. Every child participated in the gala in either a fun or formal capacity. The day went off very well thanks to all the eager parents and members of staff who willingly assisted in the event running smoothly.

Arnott and Daly were neck in neck most of the day, with Arnott winning in the end. To end the day off a 'splash a T-shirt' relay race was held with a team for parents, School Governing Body and teachers.

The children loved watching the adults get in their costumes and swim their hearts out! A big thank you to all our officials for timekeeping, starting each race timeously, getting kids into their lanes and cheering them on.

A special thank you to Mr Mark Hudson for announcing, Inge Verheul for the delicious boerewors rolls and Anna Clarke for being our stroke judge. Each and every one of you made the event the success it was!

UPS raised funds for Foundation for Deaf Children

Union Preparatory School raised R3 100 for the Laszlo Maya Foundation for Deaf Children at our 2017 Carols by Candlelight Picnic.

Laszlo Maya lost his hearing when he was 6 years old, and had to receive a Cochlear Implant. He finished his school career at Union High School in 2012, where he was Head Boy, and also matriculated with an A Aggregate. During his school career, Laszlo did not only excel academically, but also as a musician, and athlete as well as a rugby player. Laszlo has just graduated at NMU with a B.Com
degree and will now be doing his articles in order to qualify as a CA.

The Maya Deaf Foundation's main objective, among others, is to provide financial assistance to underprivileged individuals especially the youth who wish to acquire cochlear implants and hearing aids. This campaign and the establishment of the foundation led to Laszlo being nominated and announced as Mail and Guardian's Top 200 Young South Africans.

The Maya Deaf Foundation relies solely on donations and fundraising efforts to further their cause.

Here seen with Laszlo Maya is Ms Rich, Principal and Grade 4 pupil, Tristan Hope who handed over the money raised by UPS. Union Prep School would like to thank their parents and friends for their generosity towards this very special cause.

C-Age Group Gala

This weekend saw 14 of our Prep School and Junior School swimmers heading off to Port Elizabeth to compete in a C-Age Group gala held at Victoria Park Grey. For many of them it was their first gala outing at this level and all competed admirably. It is lovely to see Union being so well represented at these events.
